About the competition
This is the third national-level classical guitar competition by the Embassy of Spain in India. Previous editions were held in 2007 in association with the Delhi School of Music and in 2009 in association with the Bangalore School of Music, with the intention of fostering an interest in Spanish music and culture in India.
In 2016, we have more reason to celebrate. This is the 400th year anniversary of Miguel Cervantes. To commemorate this, we have an evening concert on 15 December inaugurating the festival and featuring period music on instruments from the time of Cervantes performances by Daniel Zapico (theorbo) and Pablo Zapico (baroque guitar).
2016 also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Spain.
The Spanish Guitar Competition and the evening concert celebrates the continuation of this important relationship.
